Extremadura is a region known for its dehesas and incredible National Parks. Despite being the economically less developed region in Spain, it holds tremendous potential for nature tourism, hunting, and fishing. On the South Face of Gredos, there are stunning gorges and rivers ideal for dry fly fishing, hosting one of the southernmost populations of native trout in Europe.

Trip details:

Species: Brown Trout.

Time of year: From May 1 to June 20.

Scenarios: mountain rivers of the south faces of the Sierra de Gredos – Sistema Central.

Transfers: Madrid airport and train station.

Recommended: A trip for enthusiasts of dry fly fishing in the undiscovered Spain, offering the opportunity to combine fishing with hunting, nature tourism, and cultural experiences.

CUSTOMIZED FLY FISHING ITINERARY

All our trips are centered around the 4-star Parador Nacional de Jarandilla de la Vera, located in one of the most exclusive areas of Extremadura. The Parador is a 2.5-hour drive from Madrid.

Anglers can either travel to our operations center in their own vehicle or be picked up from the Madrid airport or train station.

  • Reception of participants at the established place and time.
  • Transfer by vehicle to our operations center located in Jarandilla de la Vera.
  • Dinner at the hotel.
  • 8 a.m.: Breakfast in the hotel restaurant.
  • 9 a.m.: We will leave for the fishing area.
  • Guided fishing during the morning.
  • 2 p.m.: picnic lunch (first course, main course, dessert, water, coffee, and wine) on the riverbank.
  • Afternoon fishing.
  • Return to lodgings and dinner at the hotel. The customer sets the return time.
  • 8 a.m.: Breakfast in the hotel restaurant.
  • Transfer to the airport or train station of Madrid.

The material that we must take with us for this fishing trip is the following:

FISHING EQUIPMENT

Wader and feltless boots.

Boxes of flies (dry, nymphs, and some streamers): CDC flies, deer tricoptera, parachutes, small nymphs for the tandem, and some streamers of inconspicuous colors.

Rod: 9 feet #4 or #5.

1 reel with floating line.

Polarized glasses.

Fishing Net.

Cap.

Thread, thread cutter, fat for flies…

NUTRITION AND MEDICATION

Paracetamol, ibuprofen, antihistamines and all the medication you need.

SAFETY AND SECURITY

Sunscreen and polarized sunglasses.

Cellphone and charger.

 

CLOTHES

Essential clothing varies depending on the months of the year, but we always recommend bringing the following:

  • A fleece.
  • T-shirts and light pants for walking.
  • Poncho or raincoat for rain or humidity.

We insist on the importance of all travelers being covered by cancellation insurance.

For example: sometimes the trip has to be canceled due to an illness of the client or a close relative. If the trip is canceled less than 30 days in advance, only 50% of its price is refunded (it meets the expenses incurred and losses caused by not materializing the trip).

Taking out cancellation insurance will refund 100% of the money paid for the trip.
